自Number 1-3已經刊載了三篇專文:what are the key sources of insight and understanding for such theologians; what is their understanding and use of the Bible; are there key events, experiences, contexts which have influenced the direction of any given group; which theologians and which non-theologians (philosophers, anthropologists, literary theorists, sociologists) have been most influential for them? [p.3]
And scholars for whom Paul is the patron saint of the learned life frequently minimize the way in which Paul used his mind in the immediate service of God and souls, preferring thus to work in settings protected against interruption. Theological and exegetical study is honored and demanding work, but abstracted from the actual conditions of community and congregation it easily loses connection with the God who loves the world and gave himself for it.
....Most importantly, I’m reminded that the transcendent text of Revelation is not “all about me.” It is so easy to make the Bible our therapy book and Christ our therapist. It is a much greater work than that.
The problem then is not whether the text is relevant. Of course it is relevant, but relevant for what? Remember the oppressed. The world is not just about our tiny little inconveniences in our warm little upper-middle class bubble. “Me” and “relevance for me” are overrated.
We give them back to Thee, dear Lord, who gavest them to us; yet as Thou dost not lose them in giving, so we have not lost them by their return. Not as the world giveth, givest Thou, O Lover of Souls. What Thou gavest, Thou takest not away, for what is Thine is ours always if we are Thine. And Life is eternal and Love is immortal, and death is only an horizon, and an horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
